First opened in May 1984 and owned by Frankfurt’s municipal transit operator Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF), the Transit Museum is operated by the Historic Transit Association “Historische Straßenbahn der Stadt Frankfurt am Main e. V. (HSF). Every Sunday and on almost all public holidays the volunteers of the association answer your questions and guide you through the vast exhibition. In addition, the HSF organizes multiple special events throughout the year. Most popular events are the annual summer festival, the Day of Transit History and family events around Easter and Christmas.
Part of the Transit Museum’s repertoire is the subway exhibition at Kirchplatz station in Bockenheim that documents the planning, construction, and operation of Frankfurt’s subway network. This exhibition is only opened for special occasions, the dates of which will be announced on our News page.
